Why I’m Rethinking My AWS Certified AI Exam Strategy (and Maybe You Should Too)

So, here we are — again. I’m preparing for the AWS Certified AI exam, and I’ve just rescheduled it for the second time. Initially, I documented my learning journey as a personal 30-day challenge on TikTok, sharing daily updates and insights. However, reality hit hard when my practice test scores fell short of my expectations.

As I reviewed my approach, it struck me: I’ve been studying like a true millennial. I watched the course videos, meticulously typed out notes, printed them, highlighted key points, and created flashcards — yes, actual paper flashcards! But something critical was missing.

Hands-On Learning Matters More Than Notes

I realized I had been avoiding hands-on practice. The course I took had only one practical lab, and instead of supplementing this with real-world projects, I focused on my notes. It’s no wonder my scores weren’t improving. — I was stuck memorizing theory without actually applying it.

So, I’m flipping the script. Instead of spending the next two weeks cramming test answers and drowning in highlighted notes, I turned to ChatGPT for a more practical solution. I pasted the AWS AI exam domains into ChatGPT and asked for project ideas I could complete within my limited timeframe. As always, ChatGPT delivered five impressive, achievable projects tailored to each exam domain.

Learning in Public: The Cloud Build Chronicles

Inspired by this fresh approach, I’m launching a new TikTok series called “The Cloud Build Chronicles,” where I’ll transparently document my journey through building these AI-focused projects. I’ll share each project’s architecture, tackle challenges in real time, and break the work into manageable phases.

These projects are not just meant for passing an exam; they are intended to be showcased in real-world scenarios. Speaking of showcasing, I have finally published my portfolio website. While it is currently empty of projects, that is precisely why I am starting the Cloud Build Chronicles. By openly admitting the absence of projects, I am demonstrating my commitment to learning in public, staying accountable, and making tangible progress.

Small Wins Lead to Big Success

Recently, I’ve noticed an interesting shift: my social media platforms are starting to attract the attention I’ve secretly avoided due to a fear of success. Sometimes, it feels safer to run away from opportunities than to embrace them head-on. Now, I’m ready to stop hesitating and fully embrace this journey.

I’ll be sharing each project step-by-step, including detailed articles here on Medium about deploying them in real-world scenarios. By the exam date, I will not only feel confident in my understanding of AWS AI, but I will also have an enriched portfolio and practical knowledge to support it.

Additionally, here’s a little personal victory: I’ve booked my hotel for AfroTech! It’s important to celebrate those small wins — they truly matter.

Stay tuned, follow along, and consider rethinking your study approach as well. Let’s build, learn, and grow together!

Cheers,
